Two significant submissions to the Subcommittee of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform were made last month, one by John Carnevale and the second by Peter Reuter and Jonathan Caulkins. Both submissions provide damning assessments of the performance of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (the White House office which oversees the US national drug strategy) over the last 8 years, with Carnevale calling for more balanced and evidence-driven policies, and Reuter & Caulkins critical of the resort to mass imprisonment and the failure to differentiate between the harm profiles of various drugs.
