Advanced seminar on amphetamine use for Eastern Europe and Central Asia

This year, the Harm Reduction Knowledge Hub for Europe and Central Asia welcomes specialists interested developing interventions for stimulant users. Together, the participants will enjoy the challenge of an intensive learning experience through lectures, role plays and reading scientific literature.

This three-day training is designed to assist public health professionals in acquiring an understanding of work with stimulant users and will equip them with the skills required to analyse local drug situation with respect to the types of stimulant drugs.

Governments in Southeast Asia Detain Thousands in Abusive Drug Detention Centers

A new report released by the Nossal Institute for Global Health and the Open Society Institute documents the arbitrary detention of thousands of drug users, mostly young people, in controversial detention centers in Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. While the detention is supposedly for treatment, children and adults are held in boot camp-like centers where they do not receive adequate medical care and are subjected to routine physical and sexual abuse.

Draft UN Political Declaration and Action Plan - March 2009

These two documents are the versions presented to delegates when they arrived at the high level meeting on 11th March. They contain two significant amendments to the version agreed by member states on 3rd March - the addition of the words "drug abuse" in paragraph 20 of the declaration, and the removal of the word "considering" in paragraph 47(g) of the action plan. Both changes were made by the CND secretariat, that altered the meaning of those paragraphs towards wording favoured by certain member states.
